Internet Neutrality

Internet Neutrality is an issue that I’ve been reading a fair bit about recently. Late last week I posted this link to David Weinberger’s blog, which explained why it is important. I’ve just found an article (via Digg.com) that explains the issue of Internet Neutrality in a fairly straightforward manner. It is undoubtedly an important issue, and having it explained in simpler terms helps the non-geeks amongst us realise the importance.
The point that really struck me was that there is a real threat to innovation (primarily, but not completely, related to technological innovation) if the proposed ‘prioritisation’ of Internet traffic goes ahead.
I would also really like to know more about the implications of all this are for Australia. All of the articles being written are to do with American companies. I wonder what Telstra’s position on this subject is, or for that matter what Optus, Pacific Internet, Netspace, or any other Australian ISP’s and telco’s think about this type of action.
