Steve Coogan video

h1 Saturday, July 29th, 2006

My friend Neil sent me a link to a funny collection of clips from Steve Coogan’s ‘The Alan Partridge Show’. I’ve never seen the show before, but now I’m keen to see more.

I’ve seen that Hugh has a gapingvoid widget. I wonder if Ben can advise me where to copy this in without breaking my site.

Google Desktop Search

h1 Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

I’ve been meaning to try out Google’s Desktop Search for Enterprise product for some time, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. I found the original Desktop Search tool they released pretty useful for my personal use. Has anyone out there used it yet? If you have, I’d love to know what your thoughts are.

Some amusing stuff

h1 Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

I heard this joke today. I thought it was pretty funny, so I thought I’d share it with you:

Three Aussies were working on a high-rise building project, Steve, Bruce and Bluey.

Steve falls off and is killed instantly. As the ambulance takes the body away, Bruce says, “Someone should go and tell his wife.” Bluey says, “OK, I’m pretty good at that sensitive stuff, I’ll do it.”

Two hours later, he comes back carrying a case of Fosters. Bruce says, “Where did you get that, Bluey?” “Steve’s wife gave it to me,” Bluey replies. “That’s unbelievable, you told the lady her husband was dead and she gave you the beer?” “Well not exactly,” Bluey says. “When she answered the door, I said to her,’You must be Steve’s widow’. She said, ‘No, I’m not a widow.’ And I said, ‘I’ll bet you a case of Fosters you are’.”

I also thought this Red Meat cartoon was pretty funny. I want to be a pirate, but maybe not with these cowboys.

In news that is more interesting than amusing, BoingBoing reports on the hotel that inspired one of the best television shows ever!

Cool!

Microsoft have released a plug-in that introduces the ability to create a Creative Commons license in documents created in popular Microsoft applications. Get it (and a better explanation) right here.

Thanks to Professor Lessig for the link. Kudos to Microsoft also.

48 Shades

h1 Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Hot on the heels of the news about The Monkey Wrench Gang, it seems that another book I enjoyed immensely has been made into a film.

Nick Earls 48 Shades of Brown has been made into a film and is due for release in the near future apparently. Moreover, it was filmed in the city in which it was set, my home town of Brisbane.

I look forward to seeing it.

Cosmic Psychos Guitarist Dies

h1 Thursday, July 13th, 2006

I’m not an avid fan of the Cosmis Psychos (I was probably a little too young to appreciate them in their heyday), but I absolutely loved their song Guns Away, which I first head on a Homebake compilation. It is a totally awesome track.

But sadly. their guitarist has died. My condolences to his friends and family, and also to fans of the band who had a far stronger connection with the music than I have. I know there are many.

imdb.com reports that a film adaptation of one of my favourite books, The Monkey Wrench Gang, is in pre-production.

I’m not sure whether to be excited or worried!

Wordpress Conference

h1 Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

In case you’re interested, Wordcamp is being held in August. I won’t be going, but as a satisfied user of Wordpress it’s of interest to me because it’s a good sign that the developer and user community is going strong.

Perhaps next year.
