Autism
January 3rd, 2007
I’ve made mention of it in previous posts, but I have a casual fascination with Autism & Autistic people. I haven’t looked at it myself yet (I’m currently at work), but I wanted to link to this video so I can view it later. Apparently it tells the story of an Autistic woman who has an uncanny ability of understanding animals.
Link via BoingBoing.
[Bonus Link] I learnt Morse Code as a 12 year-old (but since forgotten it) as I was aiming to get my Ham Radio License with my father. BoingBoing has a link about this, although it may be specific to the USA (I’ll have to read this properly later).
Heard this the other day - very good listen and an interesting alternate perspective

and the wrath of the listeners the following week here.

Thanks for the links dg. I listened to the first one (the main story) this morning while getting ready for work. It was pretty interesting, especially how the Autistic researcher challenged the study that found that Autistic people’s brains don’t recognize faces, but instead recognize objects. She apparently successfully proved that the study was not properly controlled, and that the claim was in fact false. I’ll have a listen to the second one over the weekend.
By the way, congratulations on the new job mate! I casually follow Frank’s blog, and he seems cool. I hope it all works out for you.
