Holidays

h1 Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Yay! The holidays are upon us, and I’m stoked. I’m going to be on Straddie for the next week, then going to go and see the Porkers play next weekend.

Awesome! Hope y’all have as much fun as I am planning to have. Later!

Mark Mothersbaugh, Wes Anderson and Pee-Wee Herman

h1 Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

My brother Ben sent me a link he thought I would enjoy reading. He was right. It was this article in the LA Weekly, which is an article about and an interview with Mark Mothersbaugh. Best known as one of the key members of seminal new-wave band Devo, he has led a very interesting career path. Along the way, he has had the opportunity to work with one of my absolute favourite directors Wes Anderson. He also got to work on Pee-Wee Herman’s TV show.

Worth a read if you’re interested in what the guys from Devo are doing now, if you admire intelligent modern art, or if you want an insight into how creative and artistic people can make a good living with their craft.

Hitachi Power Tools

h1 Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

I purchased a couple of Hitachi Power tools last week. I’m quite excited by this - buying tools is fun. The chap I work with has a Hitachi Cordless Drill that seems like a very good piece of equipment, so I decided to get the same drill, and a cordless rattler gun. I am very happy so far with the purchase. There is one thing that puzzles me though…

…the Hitachi tagline: Inspire The Next.

Huh? Can someone tell me what this is supposed to mean? Sure, I accept it doesn’t matter much, the real issue is if the tools work (and they do). But my curiosity wants to know what this is supposed to mean, and why the hell haven’t they come up with something better?

To make my point a little stronger, I’ve checked the tagline’s of some of their competitors.

Bosch: Invented for life

Panasonic: Ideas for life

Milwaukee: Nothing but heavy duty

To me, these tagline’s make some sense. Dewalt and Makita don’t even seem to have a tagline, which could be a good thing if they couldn’t come up with something better than Hitachi did.

All in all, though, this business about the tagline is just a curiosity - I reckon the tools are good quality and great value. That is what matters most.
