Time of my life

h1 Friday, February 1st, 2008

Today marks the sixth month of my engagement to Jules, and in six weeks from tomorrow we’ll be getting married. Sure, there has been some stresses in regard to organising a wedding, and making adjustments peculiar to such a big change in our lives, but as the title of this post suggests, I am having the time of my life.

I wish some circumstances were a little different, but I haven’t any regrets. Having Jules in my life gives me an extra sense of meaningful purpose and overwhelming joy.

I guess the point of this is that I’m madly in love, and I wanted to ’shout it from the rooftops’.

What a Day!

h1 Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I had an awesome day last Sunday.

Jules organised a surprise day out, and after lunch at her place, she took me to the Andy Warhol exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art here in Brisbane. I really enjoyed it. I had wanted to go - although I’m not an expert on his work, I’ve admired the simplicity and accessibility of much of Warhol’s work. There is something for everyone there, and I think even casual art fans will enjoy it.

After taking out time at the Gallery, and catching up with some friends for coffee, we went had had an early tea - fish and chips in the park. Nice! This was followed by a visit to the Moonlight Cinema. And what movie was showing? Only my favourite movie of all time, “The Blues Brothers“.

Awesome!

The Power of an Audience

h1 Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I was really impressed with this story dg linked to about the Pearl Jam song, Alive. Lead Singer Eddie Vedder explains how the audience, through their positivity and participation, changed the meaning of the song, for themselves, and ultimately for Vedder himself.

Tesla Electric Sports Car

h1 Saturday, January 5th, 2008

I’ve casually been following the progress about the exciting Tesla Electric Sports car, and Treehugger provides an update. I hadn’t seen or heard anything and had wondered what was happening. Looks like they’ll get there, after fixing some technical and production issues. Yay!

Losing Your Temper

I pride myself on not losing my temper easily. Recently, I did lose my temper briefly. I wish I had seen this excellent strip beforehand. I love the Basic Instructions. Check it.

Back to the Grinstone…

h1 Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Alas, the holidays are over.

I had a great time at Straddie; it was very relaxing. When I got back, I went to see the Porkers play, and as usual they put on a skankin’ good show. Wasn’t too keen on the gratuitous nudity however, but waddaya do?

I had my first day back at work today. Would have loved to have another week off, but I need to keep earning for the wedding. With the wedding in 10 weeks, I can see it shaping up as a very busy year. Lots to look forward to!

Hitachi Power Tools

h1 Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

I purchased a couple of Hitachi Power tools last week. I’m quite excited by this - buying tools is fun. The chap I work with has a Hitachi Cordless Drill that seems like a very good piece of equipment, so I decided to get the same drill, and a cordless rattler gun. I am very happy so far with the purchase. There is one thing that puzzles me though…

…the Hitachi tagline: Inspire The Next.

Huh? Can someone tell me what this is supposed to mean? Sure, I accept it doesn’t matter much, the real issue is if the tools work (and they do). But my curiosity wants to know what this is supposed to mean, and why the hell haven’t they come up with something better?

To make my point a little stronger, I’ve checked the tagline’s of some of their competitors.

Bosch: Invented for life

Panasonic: Ideas for life

Milwaukee: Nothing but heavy duty

To me, these tagline’s make some sense. Dewalt and Makita don’t even seem to have a tagline, which could be a good thing if they couldn’t come up with something better than Hitachi did.

All in all, though, this business about the tagline is just a curiosity - I reckon the tools are good quality and great value. That is what matters most.

Pictures from New Zealand

h1 Monday, October 1st, 2007

I wanted to post a couple of Photo’s from my recent trip to New Zealand.

This one was taken between Cromwell and Omarama. For reasons I couldn’t discern, someone has created this awesome sculpture in a paddock by the highway. It reminds me of some of the steampunk art I’ve been seeing online recently.

Biker and Motorbike installation in NZ paddock

This is a shot of the spectacular scenery. Jules took this photo in Kaikoura. The photo says more than I ever could about the beauty of the place.

Kaikoura coastline and mountains

Hope you like them. I hope this works (I’ve never posted photo’s before!).
